Triumph Structures - East Texas

History : Triumph Structures - East Texas

A.P. Merritt, Sr. founded Triumph Structures - East Texas in 1928 as Merritt Tool Company, a small, family-owned business. Our early success was launched by the manufacturing of the "gold fishtail" bit used to drill hundreds of oil wells in East Texas. Business grew dramatically in the first two decades. As the our company grew, it began to diversify its business. MTC was awarded our first government contract in 1949 when we were chosen to repair and manufacture bomb-loading carts at Kelly Air Force Base. In 1968, A.P. Merritt, Jr. joined and quickly earned a leadership role as President. In 1987, we won our first major government contract to manufacture retract arms for the C-5 tanker. Also during that time, A.P. Merritt Jr. developed a relationship with Boeing and became involved with the initial production of Boeing’s V-22 Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft.  Business continued to grow rapidly with multiple aerospace and oilfield customers. In March 2009, the Merritt family agreed to merge the company with Triumph Group and thus established Triumph Structures - East Texas, Inc.
