Composite Manufacturing : Triumph Aerospace Systems - Wichita
With over 40,000 sq-ft of Composite Manufacturing floor space, Triumph Aerospace Systems – Wichita is an industry leader in the manufacturing of aircraft composite production parts and tools. Our facility has the latest technology equipment for the production of composite parts and control of composite time and temperature materials. Here is a summary of our composite equipment:
(All of the following equipment is computer controlled and monitored for traceability and documentation purposes)
- Class 400 Controlled Contamination Area (CCA) – temperature, humidity and positive pressure controlled
- 12 foot diameter 32 foot long autoclave capable of 500 degrees F and 150 psi
- 12 foot wide by 10 foot tall by 35 foot long oven capable of 500 degrees F
- 20 foot by 20 foot walk in composite material freezer
- 8 foot by 8 foot walk in composite material freezer
- Composites material testing laboratory
- Two laser projectors for accurately locating ply layup sequences
- Two ply cutters for making ply kits to aid in layup
- Laser tracker and two portable coordinate measuring arms used for QA inspection to tools and parts
- Larger composite trim shop with filtered air to remove composite dust.
- 3-Axis NC machine for trimming production parts and core
- 5-Axis NC machine for trimming production parts, core and building tooling master molds
Triumph composite parts are manufactured using autoclave and oven cured prepregs incorporating fabrics such as carbon fiber, fiberglass, and Kevlar using resins system such as epoxy, polyester and phenolic. We produce solid laminate composite structures and sandwich structures using nomex, fiberglass, and aluminum honeycomb core as well as many types of foam core.
Current Programs Include but not limited to:
- Fiberglass ECS Ducting
- Carbon Fiber System bracket attach panels
- Phenolic interior panels – sandwich structure using foam core
- Carbon fiber laminate window retainers
- Carbon fiber sandwich structure floor boards
- Carbon fiber aircraft seat surround closeouts
- Prepreg and wet layup carbon fiber and fiberglass layup molds, trim tools
Triumph will build composite parts using an existing design, modify an existing design, or we can design a composite solution from scratch. Programs can include the production tooling as well as the production part build all within the same shop to eliminate tooling issues.
