Triumph Aerospace Systems-Newport News has a long-standing reputation for providing high-quality wind tunnel test models and flight research hardware to NASA and major OEMs in the aerospace market including Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Cessna and Raytheon. Various OEMs have relied on us for on-site engineering, instrumentation and data acquisition support for development testing and troubleshooting of fielded systems.
Our bearing and seal testing capability provides troubleshooting of fielded system problems and development of new technologies.
Our Force Measurement Systems (FMS) group is a leading supplier of balances to the aerodynamic testing market. The FMS group has expertise in all types of internal and external wind tunnel balances (High Capacity Balance) and in the calibration of these devices (Automatic Balance Calibration System). In addition to supplying tailored balance solutions and calibration services, the FMS team develops data acquisition, model positioning and motion control systems for wind tunnel customers.
Our expertise resonates throughout a wide variety of fixed wing and rotary wing models, full-scale test articles, and flight-qualified components and systems. The “models” component of this expertise includes virtually every type of test model system used in the aerospace industry: aerodynamic force and moment models; load and pressure models; inlet and exhaust models; cryogenic and high temperature models; flutter and dynamic models; rotary-wing models; and rotor test stands including rotor blades, hubs and drive systems.
In addition to our aerodynamic models, we produce full-scale Radar Cross-Section (RCS) models, such as the full-scale Comanche helicopter, which require high-fidelity fabrication expertise in proprietary work environments.
Triumph Aerospace Systems-Newport News has delivered critical flight components and systems in support of numerous flight test programs for both fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircrafts. An example of complex test devices produced at our facility include the Flutter Exciter system, the world standard for flight flutter testing of new or modified aircraft.
Our testing capabilities extend to rocket engine test rigs, including airflow testing of non-rotating components and complete testing of rotating turbopumps for advanced or developmental engines. The aerodynamic flow path geometry is fully reproduced with stators, rotors and blades manufactured to flight hardware tolerances.
